I recently wrote and taped an essay for the Houston Public Radio’s program “This I Believe“. I wrote about the power of words in books. Seems like the obvious for a librarian – but I have been a believer in the importance of the words of others for a very long time. In my essay, I mentioned such books as Troubling a Star by Madeleine L’Engle and Out of Africa by Dinesen along with quotes with favorite authors Michael Cadnum and C. S. Lewis. I have done more thinking on this subject since then and have realized two things: first, there are other parts of my life that I believe in strongly, and second, there are many books that have powerful, life-changing words in them. I hope to address both of those issues in this blog. Please comment about your own strong beliefs and books (especially certain phrases or paragraphs) that have been meaningful to you.
